Cops arrest six goons, foil bid to loot trader

PATNA: Police on Saturday arrested six criminals when they were planning to loot cash from a businessman near Rajendra Nagar overbridge under Kadamkuan police station.

SSP Amit Kumar Jain said on Sunday that acting on a tip-off that some criminals had assembled at Pahalwan Ghat under Buddha Colony police station and were planning to loot cash from a businessman near Rajendra Nagaroverbridge, a police team, led by City SP Manu Maharaj, carried out raid there along with members of anti-extortion cell and arrested the six criminals from there.

The arrested criminals have been identified as Sandip Kumar, Ranjit Kumar, Ravi Ranjan Kumar and Mohd Arman, all residents of Phulwarisharif, Pintoo Kumar and Virendra Kumar, residents of Khemanichak under Ramkrishna Nagar police station, he said.

Jain said that one Mohd Teni, lodged in Beur Central jail, had planned the loot and was constantly in touch with his brother Arman. He said that Pintoo was sent to jail by the Kankerbagh police in connection with murder of one Raj Kumar Rai, a resident of Lalji Tola under Gandhi Maidan police station, in 2004. He was also sent to jail in 2007 in a dacoity case under Danapur police station and in an extortion case registered with the Gandhi Maidan police station and in an attempt to loot cash from employees of a private hospital under Pirbahore police station in 2009.

The SSP said Virendra was earlier arrested and sent to jail by Kankerbagh police in 2007 and by Pirbahore police in 2009 under Arms Act.

When asked whether criminals are targeting businessmen in Kadamkuan locality, Jain said that the transaction of cash in that area was more due to presence of many business establishments. “I have directed the SHO concerned to intensify police patrolling in the locality, particularly around banks,” he added.
