Bihar hikes cash awards for Defence personnel

Patna: The Bihar Government has enhanced the cash prize for the Defence personnel of the state, who have been decorated with various medals for the exemplary service rendered by them.

The State Cabinet approved the government’s proposal at its meeting.
Giving this information Cabinet Coordination Department Additional Secretary B K Singh said the cash prize would be given to the family members of the defence personnel by the state government. The enhanced cash prize would be effective from January 1, 2010.

The Paramveer Chakra award winner (the highest gallantry award) would be given Rs 10 lakh against the existing prize of Rs 1.50 lakh. Similarly, the Ashok Chakra awardees will be given Rs 8 lakh against Rs 1.25 lakh given earlier.

Sarvottam Yuddh Seva Medal will fetch a cash prize of Rs 7 lakh, Mahavir Chakra Rs 5 lakh, Kriti award Rs 4 lakh, Uttam Yuddh Seva Medal Rs 3 lakh, Veer Chakra Award Rs 2 lakh, Shaurya Chakra Rs 1.50 lakh, Yuddh Seval Medal Rs 1 lakh Nau Sena and Vayu Sena Medals Rs 75,000.

The Param Vishist Seva awardees will be given Rs 1.50 lakh while Ati Vishist Seva Medal and Vishist Seva Medal awardees would be given Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively.
