Bihar Transport Dept to launch e-Payment facility

Patna: The Bihar Government is all set to introduce e-Payment system in the State Transport Department. Under the scheme, the transporters of the state would be able to make payment of taxes through debit cards, credit cards and Internet banking.

State Transport Commissioner Uday Singh Kumawat said the transporters of the state can avail the facility of e-Payment from August next.

“The system will be introduced after completion of requisite formalities. The process is almost complete,” he said.

The Commissioner said, “We have already signed an agreement with the State Bank of India to facilitate the transporters to pay taxes through e-payment. The bank is ready to provide the facility from next month.
”
The Commissioner, however, said that initially this facility would be available for the vehicle owners of Patna only. “If the system succeeds in Patna, it will be introduced in other districts of the state later,” he informed.

According to the Transport Department officials, after the introduction of the new system, there is no need for the vehicle owners to visit the District Transport Offices to make the payment.

“The vehicle owners can pay taxes either by debit cards, credit cards or Internet banking.

The new system would also help the Transport Department official deal with unusual rush at the District Transport Offices. “At times, we have to face the wrath of the tax payers due to procedural delay,” an official posted at District Transport Office in Patna said.

Once the system is implemented, over 5 lakh transporters of Bihar would be benefited.
