Bihar polls the most peaceful ever: EC

New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi on Wednesday claimed that the 2010 Assembly elections were the most peaceful in the state.
“We are hopeful that violent election days are behind us. We took a lot of preventive steps and 66,000 trouble makers were arrested. These have been the most peaceful elections in Bihar,” Quraishi told CNN-IBN.
“We addressed the issues of low vote in Bihar by a campaign and survey. We targeted youth and women. We also involved personalities like MS Dhoni to attract voters,” said Quraishi.

He also said that the Election Commission tried to keep a check on the paid news in the media during this election. However, he admitted that the Commission was still a long way from curbing money power during elections even though the use of muscle power had been curtailed to a great extent.
There were no election-related deaths and reports of any incidents of booth capturing in the state.
