Bihar officials fined for defying RTI Act

Patna: The Bihar Information Commissioner P N Narayanan has imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the public information officer (PIO) – cum- block development extension officer of Baniapur block in Saran district for not giving information sought under Right To Information Act.

The Information Commissioner also imposed a fine of Rs 7,500 on block development officer of Baniapur and issued a show cause notice to him for obstructing the process of dissemination to the applicant Upendra Ram.

He has also ordered to available the required information free of cost to the applicant. Ram had sought information about development schemes launched in the block, particularly MNAREGA.

In another case, Narayanan imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the public information officer of Bhagalpur collectorate for not providing information under RTI Act to Sitaram Tiwary and not replying to the notice of the State Information Commission.

The applicant Tiwari had sought information from the PIO on appointment of Aanganbari sevikas.
