Bihar to set up river police stations

Patna: The Government of Bihar is ready to set up first river police station in the state. It will be set up at Kachchi Dargah near Deedarganj in Patna City area, on the outskirts of the state capital, within a fortnight.

A decision in this regard was taken at a high level meeting convened by Bihar Director General of Police Neel Mani at the state police headquarters on Thursday. The meeting was convened on the directive of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

“The first river police station will start functioning in Patna within a fortnight,” Neel Mani said, adding that four other police stations would be set up in Bhagalpur, Bagaha (West Champaran), Supaul and Buxer districts.

The Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation has been entrusted with the task of setting up the portable huts for the river police station, which would have strength of 10-15 policemen equipped with sophisticated weapons and other gadgets.

The meeting also decided to set up portable huts on all entry points of the state capital to check incidents of crime.

The potable huts are to be set up at Saguna More, Bigiganj Chowk, on the west and Deedarganj, Gaighat and Kumharar in the east. “The portable huts are being set up in Patna for the first time,” DGP said.
