Action plan to weed out corruption in Bihar

Patna: Bihar government on Thursday said it had evolved an action plan to weed out corruption with plans to create posts of Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) in all the departments.

State Vigilance department’s principal secretary A K Chavan told reporters that the state government after according top priority to weed out corruption, had evolved an action plan for the purpose.

“A new post of CVO will be created in every department”, Chavan said, adding the government had already created the posts of CVOs in five of the key departments.

The state government had adopted ‘zero-tolerance’ policy for reining in corruption and initiated action against the corrupt officials.

He informed that a total of 394 trap cases involving arrest of 458 corrupt officials while accepting bribe were registered between 2006 and 2010, while there were about 2000 which were pending with the vigilance department.

Under section 13 I (E) of Prevention of Corruption Act, a total of 87 cases were registered and special courts have been approached by the state vigilance department for confiscation of properties of corrupt officials in 18 such cases under Bihar Special Court Act 2009.

Chavan said altogether six special courts were trying the corruption cases in Bihar at present.

Besides constitution of flying squads, awareness was also being created among the people for the cases related to corruption, he added.
