Bihar Gaan attracts more than 1500 entries

PATNA: Bihar is all set to receive its dedicated state song in a few days from now. More than 1,500 entries have been received so far by the human resource department, from amongst which the best one will be declared as the ‘Bihar gaan’.

The song will be sung at all state functions, important occasions and in government schools during the morning prayers. “It will be a thing forever, attached to Bihar’s history, so we do not want to hurry up a decision on selection of members of the jury,” said HRD principal secretary Anjani Kumar Singh.

He said a high-level and distinguished committee would be constituted for the purpose of vetting the entries. The chief minister would be finally requested to select the song from amongst the shortlisted ones, Singh added.

The entries have been received from Jharkhand as well and some bureaucrats and politicians have also sent in their songs. Music for the song has also to be decided, said Minhaz Alam, special secretary, HRD, adding the ‘geet’ would be finally declared at the function to mark Bihar Diwas on March 22 at Gandhi Maidan.
The celebration of 99th Bihar Diwas will start with a three-day programme and last for the whole year till March next, when Bihar will complete 100 years of its formation. The grand celebration will include cultural events, folk song and dance performances, drama, ‘kavi sammelan’ and food festivals at different venues like Sri Krishna Memorial Hall, Rabindra Bhawan, Kalidas Rangalaya and others, sources told TOI.
