Uddyan Mahotsav at Patna from Wednesday

Bihar State agriculture department will hold a four-day ‘Uddyan Mahotsav-2011’ to showcase various varieties of fruits, flowers and vegetables, and agricultural equipments near Bihar Veterinary College here from Wednesday. Chief minister Nitish Kumar is likely to inaugurate the fair.

During the fair, two new devices that are not available in the state till date will be the star attractions. These are ‘solar power pumps’ for irrigation and ‘mini rice mill’. Farmers could buy the mini rice mill for Rs 3 lakh at the fair.

The fair would be spread over about two hectares of land with more than 200 stalls, including those of nurseries having seeds and plants of flowers, medicinal and herbal plants. A wide variety of hybrid fruit plants, ornamental and medicinal plants, indoor plants, vegetables and some rare flowers would be available.

Farmers could get details of various kinds of subsidies given to them by the government under different schemes. The fair would be open from 10am to 6pm. The department would also display new and emerging technologies and equipment to give fillip to the agriculture sector.

“We are organizing this fair to encourage investment in the sector and provide an interface between farmers, investors and researchers,” said Pawan Kumar, deputy director, horticulture (planning).
