NRI Day to start at Jaipur from today

NRI DayThe Tenth edition of Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas, or NRI Day or PBD  is due to start today at Birla Auditorium , Jaipur.  Although the celebrations will start today with the inauguration by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh it will be  actually celebrated on January 9 when President Partibha Patil would grace the valedictory function.

Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar  is the  Chief Guest  of the Event.

Over 1000 delegates  from 50 countries are about to attend this event.  President would also confer Pravasi Bhartiya Samman Awards to some of the attendees.

The theme of PBD  – 2012 is  Global Indian-Inclusive Growth. 

The event would also host  two pre-conference seminars on Solar Energy- Investment and R & D and Social Entrepreneurship-Water.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is an effort to bring Indian Diaspora on one forum, which expresses the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. It starts January 7 each year and continues till the  final  NRI Day happens on January 9th.   The day commemorates the arrival of Mahatama Gandhi in India from South Africa. The occasion is marked by special programs to recognize the contributions of NRI/PIO individuals of exceptional merit, felicitate NRI/PIO individuals who have made exceptional contributions in their chosen field/profession  with Pravasi Bharatiya Samman  and provide a forum to discuss issues and concerns of people of the diaspora
