World Champion India’s shock defeat against Bangladesh means South Africa finish second in the One-day International Championship table and pocket $75,000.
The five-wicket defeat led India to slip from 118 ratings points to 116. Now even victories against Pakistan Sunday and then again Thursday, if it reaches the final, will not be enough to put it ahead of South Africa.
Australia have won a cash award of $175,000 after confirming their status as the No.1 ranked ODI side in the world following the win against the West Indies in Kingstown Friday.
The award is presented annually to a side that tops the International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI Championship table at the cut-off date. This time it is April 1.
Apart from winning the cash award, the four-time world champion have also retained the prestigious ODI Championship shield for the third year running.
Overall, Australia have finished at the top of the tree nine times since the current rankings system was introduced in 2002.
In 2008 and 2009, South Africa had won the ODI shield while Australia had finished second.
For the next three years, a total of $3.8m will be distributed as prize money.
The side topping the table in 2013 will receive a minimum of $450,000, rising to $500,000 in 2015. From 2016, there will be further increases in Test prize money.
