Euro Finance Treasury Award 2012 bagged by Bharati Airtel

India’s largest telecom service provider, Bharti Airtel has said it has won the Euro Finance Treasury award for innovation and speed in integrating its treasury works from operations spread across 20 countries.

The award specifically acknowledged Bharti Airtel’s implementation of centralised treasury architecture, integrating operations across 20 countries at speed and its swift work on managing substantial $13 billion and complex funding needs across over 100 facilities from over 50 lenders, Bharti Airtel said in a statement.

The company was honoured for effectively managing the “integration challenge post the acquisition of 15 country operations from Zain in Africa in 2010, which the Airtel treasury won over comprehensively through a well planned set of initiatives”.

The company’s innovative and extensive risk management framework for managing the new currency pairs, and smart liquidity solutions to utilise the excess cash also came in for praise.

Overall the agility of the treasury in the face of volatility, led by markets as also by its multi country acquisition, evolved it to become a strategic decision maker for the business, over the period, it said.
