Police arrests 2 in Satnam Singh Mann Death Case

Police in Kerala has arrested two people for the death of Satnam Singh Mann, a 34 year old from Bihar who died in a hospital at Trivandrum last week after being arrested for a bid to attack spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi’s ashram near Kollam, police said.

Vivekanandan, a warden, and Anil Kumar, an attendant, both attached to a mental health hospital here where the victim was admitted, were arrested, said Inspector General of Police B. Sandhya.

Satnam Singh Mann, 34, a resident of Gaya in Bihar who was studying law in Lucknow, died Aug 4. His friends and relatives alleged foul play and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into his death.

“At the moment two arrests have been effected and four inmates of the mental hospital here are also in the list of suspects and further action against them can be taken only after getting legal sanction,” added Sandhya.

Mann was arrested last week and charged with trying to attack the spiritual leader at her ashram near Kollam, 70 km from here.

After his arrest in Kollam, Mann was shifted to the mental health hospital here. On Aug 4, he was taken to the medical college hospital here, where he was pronounced dead.

Mann’s relative Vimal Kishore told reporters, after seeing the dead body, that it had more than 30 injury marks.

Friends of the victim, mostly students of Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University, Lucknow, have decided to launch a campaign seeking justice for him. They plan to stage a sit-in at the India Gate in Delhi.
