Bookmyshow CEO beaten by Police during Enrique Concert in Pune

Pune Police has been blamed to have resorted to baton charge which resulted into beating of many organisers including Bookmyshow.com CEO Ashish Hemrajani.

This happened on Wednesday  during  pop star Enrique Iglesias’ concert in Pune. Organizers claim that when they prevented unauthorized entry of  guests of a Senior Police Official, they were beaten up by Police. Six members of  organizing  team were beaten up, while they were only “trying to manage the crowd”.

The concert took place Wednesday in the Hadapsar area of Pune city.

Initially the only conversation I had when I stood there was ‘aap ke saath koun koun hai?’ (How many people are with you?). That was the question I asked and the response was an immediate slap on my face,” said Vijay Nair, one of the organisers.

“The next minute I know, there were three other people with him (the senior police official), who pinned me down against the barricading and for the next one-and-a-half minutes, it was just non-stop beatings from all sides,” he told media persons.

The organisers said the CEO of bookmyshow.com Ashish Hemrajani was also among those beaten up.

Police, however, claimed that they were just managing the crowd and were trying to stop the big group of people from entering the venue without being subjected to checks. Officials from Pune’s Hadapsar police station denied having beaten up any of the organisers.

Police admitted to resorting to a mild baton-charge to set the crowd in order. They also claimed that they had to act after bouncers deputed by the event organisers heckled Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) V.T. Pawar.
