Kolkata hosts Third Edition of National Science Film Festival in January

Kolkata would host the 3rd National Science Film Festival in January 2013. National Science Film Festival is held every year to promote film makers making audio visuals on Science and Technology.

“Film is a popular and effective medium as it reaches a large number of people. We want to explore all channels of communication to promote science among the masses,” Director General of NCSM, G S Rautela, told reporters at Kolkata.

The best film-makers will be awarded under four categories including popular science programme, short and animation film on science and technology. This year, a special student section has also been included.

Films awarded would be screened at the Mumbai international Film Festival. Selected international films will also be screened in the non-competition section, Rautela said.

Simultaneously, a three day conference on science on Indian television will also be held where renowned science film directors and producers will share their experiences.

Organised by the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) and Vigyan Prasar, films will be screened at the Science City auditorium from January 3 to 7. Started in 2010, the festival is held along with the the Indian Science Congress
