Lucknow:  India  Army’s Central Command has launched Desh Sewa programme for the welfare of ex-servicemen in western and eastern districts of Uttar Pradesh which is home to 1.5 lakh retired jawans.
The pilot project aims at entitlements, health, housing and re-employment under an initiative ‘Swasth aur Adhikar, Awas tatha Rojgar’ was executed in three phases, according to an official release here at Lucknow.
In the first phase, Army teams visited the remote areas to contact and identify all ex-servicemen. In the second phase, the information about ex-servicemen was ‘collated and isolated’ to enable resolution and in the final phase presently under way, the Army, retired jawans and concerned agencies were brought on a common platform to enable interface and resolution, it said.
Of 1,195 petitions received from ex-servicemen under the programme, 1024 cases have been resolved in just one month with 60 cases pending with civil administration and 42 cases under consideration by pension authorities. The pilot project will now be replicated in other regions of UP.
The programme is slated for launch in Uttrakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in November this year, the release said.
