NDMA conducts Disaster Management demo at India International Trade Fair 2012

New Delhi, Nov 16 (IANS) The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will hold live demonstrations on earthquake and chemical disaster management techniques at the ongoing India International Trade Fair (IITF) at Pragati Maidan in the capital, officials said Friday.

“Live demonstrations on chemical and earthquake disaster management will be held on Nov 17 and 18, respectively,” said an official statement from the NDMA.

“We have invited school children, as the demonstrations would be of great educational value to them and will also help in sensitizing the younger generation to these disasters,” the statement added.

The NDMA has also sought participation of visitors, especially youngsters, in the demonstrations so as to raise their awareness on various disaster management issues and help them gain confidence in handling emergencies.

Besides an audio visual presentation, literature on managing various kinds of disasters is being distributed at the NDMA pavilion.

The 32nd edition of the annual IITF opened Wednesday with over 6,000 exhibitors from India and abroad. Organisers expect around 20 lakh visitors during the 14-day event.
