Tourists to India prefer Visa on Arrival compared to Regular VISA

Tourists visiting India are now showing the preference towards Visa on Arrival. Data released by Government states that the number of foreign tourists opting for visa on arrival (VoA)  has risen by over 26 percent during January-October 2012 compared to the same period in 2011.

A total number of 12,273 VoAs were issued this year as compared to 9,739 during the corresponding period of 2011 – a growth of 26 percent, a tourism ministry official said.

In order to attract more foreign tourists to India, the government in 2010 launched a VoA scheme for countries like Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore.

In 2011, the scheme was extended to accommodate six more countries – Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Laos and Myanmar.
