Uttarakhand becomes First Polythene Free State of India

Uttarakhand has completely banned any use of Polythene in the state. Even tourists visiting the hill state will not be allowed to use them.

A decision to this effect was taken today at a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Alok Kumar Jain who asked officials to issue a revised notification in this regard.

The state government had earlier imposed a ban on use of polythene bags of less than 40 micron but as per the revised notification, yet to be issued, use of all sorts of carry bags made of polythene will be completely banned in the state, an official release said. Even visitors coming from outside the state will not be allowed to use polythene bags, it said.
