Delhi Gang Rape Victim shifted to Singapore due to Political Reasons

New Delhi: Damini, who was brutally raped on December 16 and was battling for her life since, was shifted to Mt. Elizabeth Hospital Singapore on Tuesday night not due to any Medical Reasons, but due to Political reasons.

A Number of Doctors involved in her treatment and other experts of Surgery voices their opinion against her sudden transfer to Singapore Hospital and called it unnecessary.

“When the Prime Minister can be treated and operated [here] what is the specific medical need to move a patient to Singapore?”, says an AIIMS doctor.

The decision to move her was taken by Prime Minister’s Office and Doctor’s were consulted only to verify that it was safe to move her abroad. It might have been influenced by growing protests against the Rape cases and the Sea of masses powering pressure on the Government in various parts of India.

“The question we were asked was whether it would be safe to move her,” said one member of the expert team, drawn from doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital.

In a report published in The Hindu, Dr. Samiran Nundy, chairman of the organ transplant and gastro-surgery department of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital says, “I just can’t understand why a critically ill patient with infection in blood and body, high grade fever and on the ventilator is being transferred,”. “It will take weeks in this case to even look into the possibility of an intestinal transplant so why hurry and take the patient out from a facility which works so well. It seems more of a political move.”

One of our readers had earlier expressed the possibility of this angle by this comment.

“The reason why she has been moved is because there is too much heat and focus on the Congress Party. This is a way of shifting focus and if the girl is dead or may die (I pray she will be fine), then the Congress Party will say we did all we could to help her”.
