Narendra Modi Casts Vote in Ahmedabad amid huge Fanfare

Gujarat CM Narendra Modi did cast his vote today at a school in the Ranip area of Ahmedabad. A very large number of people were present to express their solidarity when the Chief Minister exercised his franchise.

“The people of Gujarat will once again vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party,” Modi told reporters as the electorate voted to decide if Modi and the BJP get another five-year term or whether the Congress can dislodge it.

Talking about the Sir Creek issue he said, “If Sardar Patel was alive, Afzal Guru would have been hanged very promptly and Pakistan would never have asked for Sir Creek.”

Modi expressed his gratitude to the voters and expressed confidence that the voters will give a hat trick of victory to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).He affirmed that the mood of the people around indicates the mood in the elections.

Modi said, “I have always worked for six crore Gujaratis. I feel that working for the people of my state is also serving the nation in way.

”Earlier in the morning Narendra Modi Tweeted, “Going to cast my vote for Gujarat Elections 2012. Let’s vote and break our own record of the 1st phase!”

An electorate of 19.8 million is expected to exercise their franchise across 23,318 polling stations. The regions going to the polls include Kutch, north Gujarat and central Gujarat.

As many as 10,126 stations have been declared ‘critical’, official euphemism to mean they could witness disturbances or violence.

Of an estimated 19.8 million voters, 10.3 million are male and 9.5 million female.

There are a total of 820 candidates in the fray, including 49 women.

In his Blog Narendra Modi wrote after finishing his campaign,” I have seen many elections in Gujarat but there is something very unique about the elections this time. The eyes of not only the entire nation but also the entire world are on the people of Gujarat. Never before have state elections generated so much interest from the people at large”.

After travelling across the entire state over the last so many months, I have seen with my own eyes that these elections are not being fought by the BJP. They are not being fought by Narendra Modi either. If there is someone fighting the elections, it is the 6 crore people of Gujarat. What is even more heartening is the fact that it is the youth of Gujarat who have taken the elections on their shoulders in a way that is never seen before! This is a very positive sign.
