Women left to perish in Open Fields after Tubectomy in Bengal

Malda (West Bengal): Over 100 women who underwent tubectomy at Manickchak Rural Health Centre here  were let to perish in open fields with under unhygienic conditions.

After drawing flak, the district health officials have started a departmental investigation.

Health workers alleged that the women – most of whom were from the Muslim community – were kept in an adjacent open field even before they could regain consciousness after the procedure.

“The health centre did not have the basic infrastructure that is needed for such surgeries,” a worker said.

District health officials said the camp was held by the block authorities who had kept them in the dark about it.

“We have asked for a report and also started investigation,” a district health official said.
