Adhikar Rally of Nitish Kumar in New Delhi: Agenda and Myths

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s Adhikar Rally at Ramlila Maidan is being seen as the rise of Bihar to the National Map of India. By pressing a demand for Special Status for Bihar, Nitish has ensured that whosoever comes to power at Center is obliged to grant special status to Bihar.

Both Congress and its ally BJP have not been invited to the Rally, the reason behind this is said to be JD(U)’s Internal Rally. A similar Adhikar rally was organized by JD(U) on November 4 last year.

An impact of massive mobilization of support by Nitish Kumar was felt when during the Budget, Finance Minister hinted at altering rules of Special Status in favor of Bihar. In past Congress has also praised Nitish Kumar and his Governance in Bihar, which is considered as some sort of bond developing between the two and may lead to polarization of power in 2014 elections.

The Adhikar Rally is also seen as the rise of Nitish Kumar to the National Politics. His supporters want him to be the next Prime Minister which puts him in direct competition to Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, a person whom he refuses to associate with.

While, it might be beneficial to Bihar, the agenda of Adhikar Rally cannot be limited to Bihar only. Political Analysts say  it is more about JD(U) and Nitish Kumar rather about the state of Bihar.
