DMK Ministers resign from UPA Government a day after Support Withdrawl

A Day after DMK pulled out from UPA Government at Center, its all five ministers have submitted their resignation to the Prime Minister.

The Ministers are – M K Alagiri, Cabinet Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers and D Napolean, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, S S Palanimanickam, Minister of State for Finance, S Jagathrakshakan, Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and S Gandhiselvan, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare.

Talking to reporters after submitting his resignation, senior DMK leader TR Balu said, “The Prime Minister accepted our resignation.” On being asked if the DMK would join the NDA, Balu said, “There is no question of it.”

The resignations of the DMK Ministers followed the pullout of the party from the UPA government over its demand that India should push for amendments to a US-sponsored resolution in UN Human Rights Council for an independent international probe into genocide of Sri Lankan Tamils.

DMK Chief M Karunanidhi has denied any scope of outside support to the Government but has not ruled out the possibility to revise his decision if Government changes its stand on Sri Lankan Tamil Issue.
