Bihar has moved to 26th position in the National  Rating of Power Companies. Last year it was on 39th position, the last among states.
The Rating was released by Central Power Ministry and is based upon 7 Criteria as perceived by National Rating Agency ICRA. In the current rating Bihar is ahead of Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.
This is a big jump for Bihar in the Power Sector, provided the inadequate infrastructure it posses in Electricity Generation. Â However, Â Bihar Power Holding Company has been rated under ‘B’ category.
Bihar’s power system has a peak of about 1500 MW under the constrained demand scenario and the availability is about 950 MW.  Only 52.8 % of villages and 6 % of households of the state are electrified, leaving about 85 % of the population with no access to electricity.
This situation is prevalent when, only 52.8Â % of villages and 6Â % of households of the state are electrified, leaving about 85% of the population with no access to electricity.
What does being electrified means…Does it mean that power cables have been drawn in village where there were no wires or transformers or it also means availability of electricity for consumption.Because I still see that Gaya being one of town gets 4-6 hrs of electricty a dayin this scorching summer.
