Govt to form Bihar State Sports Council as the statewide Regulator

Patna:  State Legislative Assembly of Bihar has passed Bihar  Sports Act 2013, which aims at transparency in the functioning of Sports bodies in the State.

As per the provisions of this act, Bihar State Sports Council  shall be the apex body for all Sports Federation and units in the state and all such bodies must be registered with it.

The Act envisages creation of a federal system of Sports bodies in the State. In every district there would be District Sports Council, which would have a representation in the State Sports Council.

The Act also ensures that there exists a single federation for a category of sports. For e.g. there would be only one  Cricket Federation in the State. Similar rules apply for Hockey, football etc. The Selected Federation would also represent Bihar at all National Level Competitions.

This is considered as a much crucial step towards the development of Sports in Bihar and the freeing Sports from the clutches of regional politics. Bihar has so far remained dormant in most categories of Games and Sports.
