Doctors cannot accept Gifts from Drugs, Pharmaceutical or Surgical Companies and this practice is completely illegal.
The Medical Council of India has rejected that proposal of Drug Manufacturers Association which allowed Doctors to accept Gifts worth Rs 1000 every month from Pharma Companies.
The Board of Governors of MCI has termed it illegal for Doctors to accept any such gifts.
It is known beyond doubt that Medical Companies gift Doctors with Cash and Kind worth lakhs every months. They also sponsor Holidays and Foreign Trips for Doctors in return for increased sales of particular brand of Medicine.
As per the Code of Conduct issued by MCI, Doctors are completely prohibited from indulging in such practices. The code also has provision of Cancellation of License for Practitioners if found indulging in such practices.
