Activists Campaign Online for Justice to Former RJ Sneha Singh

RJ Sneha SinghRanchi: Friends and Family members of slain RJ Sneha Singh have started an Online Campaign seeking justice for her as they feel that Munger Police has converted the case of her Rape and Murder to a Suicide Case.

They have started a Facebook Campaign called  Justice for Sneha and  they have been able to gather the support of over 4000 Netizens within a week. Now they plan to start a peaceful candle march in her Support. They have also started a website covering information about Sneha and the progress of their campaign.

Sneha Singh who is credited to be the first Radio Jockey (RJ) of Ranchi/Jharkhand  was found dead in a hotel room of Munger Bihar on July 22. Her semi-naked body was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room in the hotel. (Does this indicate suicide ?)

According to Munger SP Navin Chandra Jha ,  the report of postmortem on the girl found it to be a case of suicide, not rape and murder.

Police is also quoting a Caste Angle in the whole case as she was in love with a guy from different case and their families were a bit hesitant in solemnizing their marriage. Sneha belonged to the forward Bhumihar caste. She was in a relationship with a man from the Kayasth caste (considered lower in caste hierarchy to Bhumihar). Her family initially opposed their marriage, but friends say her father was gradually coming round to accepting their relationship.

“The day she died there were around 60 missed calls from her father on her mobile. We have the call data records. She presumably had watched the movie Mohabbatein [in which a protagonist commits suicide when her father rejects her relationship]. That day she conveyed to her friend that the movie mirrored their situation,” Deputy Inspector-General of Police Anil Kishore Yadav told The Hindu.

However Friends and Family refuse to buy in Police’s version of the story. The family believes it is a murder and facts are being hidden by the government agencies. The police jumped to conclusions after the post-mortem reports and completely ignored other angles of investigations.

According to one of the participants of the campaign, Sneha was a bold, confident and extrovert person. She spoke out against what she thought was wrong. She used to be happy. There was no reason for her to commit suicide. And if she wanted to why would she undress herself? Why have the police not conducted a thorough videography of the room? They (Police) hurriedly sent the body for Post Mortem without waiting for the family to arrive. They are investigating and questioning the hotel staff only after pressure. Moreover, CCTVs were not working in the hotel.

One other Message reads, Sneha was Brutally Murdered working for Bihar Innovation Forum in Munger. She deserves Justice and Jeevika has already pronounced her abandoned.

Her friends and neighbours too are shocked at her sudden death. One of her friends exclaims, “She was probably the most popular RJ in the Jharkhand capital. She was a lively girl, full of enthusiasm and energy and always willing to take on challenges. Why will she commit suicide?”.

One of her neighbour also says that she was a positive person, a career woman who aspired to conquer all the challenges of life. She could never opt for suicide.

Her friends and fellow alumni of XISS have also organized various protest marches at Patna, Ranchi and Munger. The issue has also been raised by Former Deputy CM of Bihar, Sushil Modi.  Modi demanded an inquiry into the killing of  Sneha. Modi said that the deceased’s father claimed that the postmortem report also talked about “unnatural death”.

Sneha was in Munger in relation to her work at Bihar government’s ‘Jeevika — Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society’ project.

Though a native of Bihar, she lived in Flat number 205 at the Madhusudan Vihar residential complex at Sonari Jamshedpur with her family. She was an MBA from Xavier Institute of Social Sciences Ranchi before that she worked as RJ with Big FM in Jharkhand. After completing her MBA she had joined Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society. She was working with Jeevika (an initiative of Bihar Govt, Indian Govt and World Bank) working towards the rural poor.  Reports indicate that She was staying at that Hotel since June 7 and was posted at Gaya before coming to Munger. Her latest post on Facebook wall says she did shopping of more that 10,000 from various online websites sitting at small town of Munger.

Ironically,  Justice for Sneha online Campaign has picked up momentum, but Sneha was never in favor of such practices. In a Facebook post dated last year, she says,

Dear All, I do not believe that sitting at home blasting on facebook or signing virtual petition will do any help or solve any problem. So plz do not post these stuff on my wall. But yes…..if U really want to do something concrete to raise the voice …then let me know…we ll do it together

We hope Sneha gets the Justice soon.
