Apple is all set to enter the nascent Smartwatch marketspace with the brand name iWatch, which is much in line with the company’s tradition of iProducts. As per reports, Apple has filed for trademark ownership of the “iWatch” in Japan and Russia. However no such filing has been reported in Europe and America. Some sources confirm that some 100 Engineers are already working on the development of iWatch.
Smartwatches have gained a considerable market size in recent days with major players opting in to sell the wrist held device. Wearable technology such as Google Glass, now in beta testing with thousands of “explorers” in the US, and Pebble’s Bluetooth-connected watch, has become a hot new item. Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive, didn’t rule out the idea of such a product when he appeared at the AllThingsD conference earlier this year.
Sony’s Smartwatch is available at as low as Rs. 5,476.49 in Indian markets. Samsung, the world’s biggest maker of cell phones is developing a smartwatch, the company confirmed in March. Google is also working on a Smartwatch.
It is interesting to know that Apple’s iPod was first discovered from trademark filings ahead of its launch in October 2001. Similarly, the name iPhone came to light.
Experts argue that iWatch could also be some form of TV-compatible device. Benedict Evans of Enders Analysis has suggested that Apple could introduce an HDMI-powered dongle with the ability to use TV signals.
