Bihar allotted Coal Blocks for three new Power Plants

Bihar has been allotted coal blocks for three new Thermal Power Plants in the state at Lakhisarai, Chowsa and Pirpainty. The three Power Plants would depend on Devcha Paschim Coal Mines for meeting its coal requirements.

As per the estimates, each Power Plant would have the installed capacity of 1320 MW, with an aggregate of  3960 MW. Bihar will get 85% of Power Out put from these plants, thus when operational, these plants would provide a sum of 3366 MW of Electric Power to the state which would be sufficient to meet the extrapolated demand of the state for next 25 years.

The Coal Mine at Devcha (West) is expected to provide 386 Million Tonnes of Coal to the three plants of Bihar in next 25 years.

Of the three upcoming power plants, the Bihar Govt has signed an MoU for Lakhisarai Power Plant with SJVN Ltd, which is run jointly by Himachal Pradesh and Central Govt.

As per the reports, the Central Government has also provided coal linkages to the old units of Thermal Power Plants at Barauni and Kanti. Four Units of these plants have been closed since a long time and with proper coal linkages, these units  can be renovated and modernized.

The Standing Linkage Committee for long term has approved the proposal of Bihar Government to allot coal linkages to these units.
