Meet Durga Shakti Nagpal, an IAS Officer suspended for opposing UP Mining Mafia

Durga Shakti NagpalDurga Shakti Nagpal, an IAS Officer from Uttar Pradesh has been punished after taking strong steps against UP Sand Mining Mafia in Greater Noida Uttar PRadesh. She was posted as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar and now has been transferred to Income Tax Department.

The reasons of her abrupt Transfer are not known, but it seeing her stern attitude against illegal Sand and Mining Mafia, it is easily understood that she has been victimized.

Last Week Durga Nagpal was in limelight for seizing  of 24 dumpers engaged in illegal quarrying and got arrested 15 people in the Gautam Buddha Nagar and Greater Noida.

It is being alleged that this action has been taken by Akhilesh Yadav led Government in Uttar Pradesh under pressure from the Sand and Mining Mafia of the State

She was posted as the SDM Sadar at Noida in September 2012 and is a Trainee IAS Officer.

In an interview to Mail Today last week, the 2009 batch officer said: “As per our strategy, we are conducting raids on a daily basis on sand mafia and their units. A list of illegal sand mining units has been prepared and action is being taken against them”.

“We (revenue, transport and sale tax departments) jointly impose a heavy fine ranging from Rs 80,000 to one lakh on those who flout environmental norms by carrying out illegal sand mining, but they come back into their business. We register stern sections of the law against them.”, she further added.

Durga Nagpal was one of the toppers of the Union Public Service Commission Examination 2009, securing an All India Rank 20. Her Subjects were Public Administration and Psychology.  She is from Punjab  Cadre, but shifted to UP Cadre after she married an IAS Officer  from UP Abhishek Singh of 2011 batch.
