Solargate Scam : Facts, Analysis and Comprehensive Data

Solargate or Solar Panel Scam is yet another Gate Scam of India which has emerged during the tenure of present Congress led Government. However, unlike other Gate Scams (viz. Coalgate, Railgate etc), Solargate took place in the Southern State of Kerala.

Solar-Gate pertains to alleged cheating of several persons to the tune of crores of Rupees by Saritha Nair and her accomplice Biju Radhakrishnan by offering solar panel solutions. It is alleged that Saritha Nair has links with Kerala CM Oommen Chandy who leads the Congress-led Government in Kerala.

According to  the Complainant Sreedharan Nair,  he had met Chandy on July 9 2012 and discussed the project when Saritha was present.

Nair added that he paid Rs.40 lakh in three instalments to Saritha Nair to erect a solar panel factory at Palakkad after being convinced that the project was viable.

According to Sreedharan Nair, “I was asked to reach Chandy’s office and I went along with a friend of mine. She (Saritha) was waiting outside and I was taken to the office of Chandy…. after some time (Chandy’s then aide) Tenny Jopan led me in. Chandy was introduced to me by Saritha S.Nair”.

“He (Chandy) said it was good that you people have come for projects like this and I can go ahead strongly. Soon he left the office and I also along with Nair accompanied him in the lift and then we went our way,” he said.

However Oommen Chandy says  that he met Sreedharan Nair as a representative of quarry owners association and had ‘not discussed solar project’.

Not only this, one of the personal aide of Oommen Chandy has also been arrested in connection to the scam. Two other employees in his personal staff have also been removed in connection with the scam.

Sreedharan Nair has already filed a private complaint against being cheated at a court in Pathanamthitta and last Saturday, gave a statement to the magistrate. “I have given the exact statement to the magistrate about what I told in this interview,” he said.

The Court  posted to July 11 for orders a petition seeking a vigilance inquiry into the alleged role of Chandy, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and others in the scam and their links with Saritha Nair and Biju Radhakrishnan.
