Aviation Ministry to construct 17 new Airports by 2017

Government of India has decided to construct 17 new Airports during the 13th 5 Year Plan of 2012-17. The list of these airports were announced by Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Shri K.C. Venugopal in Parliament today.

Karnataka would get 4 new airports, followed by Maharashtra (3) and Kerala (2). No new airport has been sanctioned for Bihar, which has a huge share of Foreign Tourists and Pilgrims.

Interestingly, 11 out of 17 Airports would be setup in States which presently is  ruled by Congress or its allies.

The list of new Airports are

  2. Gulbarga Airport,Karnataka
  3. Bijapur Airport, Karnataka
  4. Hassan Airport, Karnataka
  5. Shimoga Airport, Karnataka
  6. Aranmula Airport, Kerala
  7. Kannur Airport, Kerala
  8. Sindhudurg Airport,Maharashtra
  9. Navi Mumbai Airport, Maharashtra
  10. Shirdi Airport, Maharashtra
  11. Dabra Airport, Madhya Pradesh
  12. Karaikal Airport,Pudducherry
  13. Kushinagar Airport,Uttar Pradesh
  14. Andal-Faridpur Airport, West Bengal
  15. Itanagar Airport, Arunachal Pradesh
  16. Kishangarh Airport,Ajmer Rajasthan
  17. Deoghar Airport,Jharkhand
