Sunita Naik: The Journey from High Profile Life to Footpaths

Sunita Naik is a 65 year old Lady from Mumbai who has witnessed a journey from Riches to Rags in a very short span of time. A Lady who once owned 2 Flats in Mumbai was forced to reside on footpath for years.

Sunita, a Former Editor of Marathi magazine ‘Grihalaxmi’ was living  on the pavement outside  Aram Nagar Gurdwara of Mumbai for the past two months. Recently she has been offered a generous shelter by a Christian Couple.

It is difficult to gauge from her present state that she was once a rich and independent woman who owned two apartments in Worli and a bungalow in Pune.

“I once had over Rs 50 lakh in my account. I don’t know where it all went. I suspect one of my employees usurped my money,” she said.

“I no longer live on the footpath, outside the gurdwara. I have found shelter with the couple – Gregory and Christine Misquitta”, Sunita was quoted saying according to local media reports.

The Christian couple learnt about her plight from media reports and offered help, after being informed that she was staying at footpath with her Pomeranian dog.

“I am happy here,” she said. The couple brought her home along with her  dog, her constant companion for the past 12 years.
