Bus Strike in Kerala on September 4 over Fuel Price Hike

Buses  and other public vehicles in Kerala will keep off the roads on Wednesday September 4 in response to a steep rise in Fuel Price Rise announced on August 31 by Oil Companies. Consequently, no Auto-rickshaw, Taxis or any other public vehicle shall be operated on that day. The State-owned Kerala State Road Transport Corporation is also likely to take part in the protest.

The frequent increase in oil prices by state-owned oil firms which have been assigned in January to raise prices by up to 50 paise per litre every month until losses are wiped out, has started to upset bus operators who are already in dire straits.

Call to similar strikes has been made in several other parts of country.

The workers of Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday took out a motorbike rally against the fuel price hike announced by the government.

In Bhubaneshwar, CPI(M)  organised a protest against the Central government announcing an increase of Rs.2.35 on a litre of petrol and Rs.0.50 on diesel.  A rally was taken out from the party office and reached Jagadamba centre via Lepakshi where an effigy of the government was burnt.
