Afzal Usmani, a terrorist and senior member of Indian Mujahideen has escaped from custody  while being made to appear before a MCOCA Court in Mumbai.
He is one of the accused in 2008 Ahmedabad and Surat blast cases. It is being said that Usmani had helped in arrest of several key Indian Mujahideen operatives. Mumbai crime branch claimed that it had succeeded in cracking the Maharashtra module of the Indian Mujahideen based on information from him.
Police says he “disappeared” from outside the court. They have issued an arrest warrant against Usmani.
Before getting involved in Terror attacks, Usmani was  a car thief. Later he  was got involved in several Mumbai underworld gangs. He was charged in several cases of Murder, Attempt to Murder and Firing.

He was booked in cases releated to 2008 Ahmedabad and Surat Bomb Blasts. He was arrested  from Uttar Pradesh on August 27, 2008.
