Maharashtra IPS Officer attempts Suicide after exposing Irregularities

R K Sahay, an 1986 batch IPS Officer in Maharashtra  attempted suicide yesterday night by setting himself on Fire at his home. He has been rushed to the Bombay Hospital with 60 percent burn injuries.

Sahay, presently posted as Additional Director  General of Police (ADG) at Maharashtra, didn’t leave any suicide note nor any personal problem has been reported so far.

He came to limelight few months back when he  submitted an inquiry report detailing alleged irregularities in the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) during the tenure of its former chief, Deepak Kapoor, an IAS officer of 1991 batch. Sahay was the Chief Vigilance Officer of MSRTC till two months back.

Based on his Report, the Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau has sought permission from Government to conduct an open enquiry against Deepak Kapoor.  An open inquiry – as opposed to a discreet one-is conducted when the bureau has enough evidence against an officer suspected of corruption.

Deepak Kapoor was earlier the high-profile private secretary to NCP Leader Praful Patel when  he was civil aviation minister at the centre.

Reports also suggest personal conflicts between Deepak Kapoor and R K Sahay over Seniority issues during their tenure at MSRTC.
