BJP to seek ‘Disadvantaged State’ Status for Bihar in Hunkar Rally

Bihar BJP has decided to demand a special category of Disadvantaged States for Bihar, during its much awaited Hunkar Rally at Gandhi Maidan Patna on October 27. The demand is in contrast with the demand of Special State Status to Bihar, for which CM Nitish Kumar has been campaigning for years.

Former Deputy CM, Sushil Modi said that he was confident that Bihar will figure in this new category of States and will automatically qualify for the special status.

“The Chief Minister has clearly failed to deliver the special status to Bihar if one goes by the dilution of his stand after release of the Raghuram Rajan panel report. He has conveniently reduced his demand and now merely wants additional financial assistance and tax break at par with those States enjoying special status,” Sushil Modi was quoted saying.

Sushil Modi further claimed that Nitish Kumar’s new demands won’t suffice to complete the various pending infrastructure projects which require about Rs 40,000 crore. Under the circumstances, it will be appropriate that a demand is made for special package, he said.

The Rally also marks first formal visit of  BJP’s Prime Ministerial Candidate Narendra Modi after his appointment.

BJP is batting high to make this rally a grand success as the proposed rally would ‘virtually sound the poll bugle for the general elections next year’. Several senior party leaders have fanned out to various parts of Bihar from to mobilise people’s support for the rally.

On October 18, BJP workers flagged off the so-called ‘NaMo Vijay Rath’ from the party office on Birchand Patel Marg. Among those to flag off the rally were BJP state president Mangal Pandey, Nand Kishore Yadav, Arun Kumar Sinha, and Nitin Navin.

BJP workers in the state have engaged in door-to-door campaign for inviting people to attend the Hunkar Rally and make it successful like most other rallies that have been addressed by Narendra Modi over the past few months.

The PArty has booked 11 trains and  above 3000 buses for ferrying its supporters from different parts of the state to Patna.

Party Sources claim that a large number of Muslims of Bihar would reach Gandhi Maidan to hear Narendra Modi during Hunkar Rally.
