Cyclone Lehar feared to cause Severe Damages in India

Cyclone Lehar which would  hit Indian East Coast on November 28, is expected to cause severe damages like its predecessor Phailin. Moreover, since the cyclone is drifting northwest wards, it might reach states like Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar. The Cyclone is presently drifting on the Top of Andaman Sea, 120 km east-southeast of Port Blair,says the latest bulletin by Indian Meteorological Department.

IMD Bulletin also says that Rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls (25 cm or more) would occur over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during 36 hrs. About 1 to 1.5 metre height above astronomical tide would inundate the low lying areas of Andaman & Nicobar Islands within 100 km from the landfall point.

The system would intensify further, move west-northwestwards and cross Andaman & Nicobar Islands, close to Port Blair around midnight of today, the 24th November 2013. It would then emerge into southeast Bay of Bengal, intensify further gradually into a very severe cyclonic storm. It would move west-northwestwards and cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam near Kakinada around 28th November noon.

While the cyclone is expected to subside down on November 29, the effects are likely to sustain through several days.
