Asthana, who is 25 years old, worked as a Trainee Dance Teacher and also worked as a DJ at several clubs. Local News reports quote Police officials saying that Asthana was standing on the pavement after leaving McDonald’s when he had a brief exchange of words with another person followed by assault. Asthana was punched in the head and fell “heavily”, striking his head on the pavement.

The Incident occurred at 5:10 AM on November 2 after Asthana had his performance at Britomart Bar in Auckland.

He said he had been told the trouble flared after Asthana complimented a young woman on her dress.

Eddie Lo, a friend of Asthana, was at the spot few minutes before the incident. According to him the trouble began when  Asthana complimented a young woman on her dress.

“She had a go at him because she thought he was hitting on her, and then her boyfriend runs up and smashes him in the head and runs off. He was just complimenting her and she went psycho”, said Eddie Lo.

His mother, Yvette D’Souza, had barely left his side since he has been admitted to Hospital, and his father is expected to arrive from India.

Father Tipen, a Priest at Local Church terms him a “bright, personable” young man. “He was like a magnet to people … He had a sense of humour and had everything going for him.”, said Father Tipen.

Police have arrested the 27 year old Man who attacked Asthana and enquiries were continuing.
