Indian Origin Youth arrested in New York for Hate Crime against Jew

New York: Amrit Marajh, a 28-year-old Indian-origin man has been  arrested  and released on Bail for allegedly indulging in Hate Crimes against a Jewish person.  However, some  believe that Amrit physically assaulted the victim as part of some  knock-out game only and it was not a Hate Crime.

The attack happened around 2:30 a.m. Friday on 18th Avenue and East Second Street in Borough Park.  The 24-year-old victim said he was punched in the face, The man says he overheard a group talking about the game before he was punched.

He said that he overheard the people who attacked him talking about the knockout game before they punched him in the face. He managed to escape serious injury and went to the local community Jewish police, who contacted the NYPD.  Police arrested Four men in the connection  but three had been let go.  Amrit was charged with with two counts of a hate crime and third-degree assault. Marajh was later released on USD 750 bail.

According to a report on NBC News, Amrit Marajh of Brooklyn is charged with aggravated harassment as a hate crime, assault as a hate crime and misdemeanour assault.

A report in New York Daily News said Marajh voiced an anti-Semitic statement before attacking his victim.  In a Knockout Game, the objective is to knock out an unsuspecting person with one punch.

Marajh had left a local bar here with four friends and was talking about boxing when the “knockout” game came up, police said.

He allegedly boasted that he could knock out his victim after one of his friends challenged him.
Marajh allegedly said, “Yes I can. I’ll do it to this guy right now!” He punched the young Jewish man and hurled an anti-Semitic slur.
