Most of the Universities in Top 100 are either from China (40) , Russia (19) and Brazil (17), followed by India (16). India has 5 Universities in Top 20.

According to QS, this university ranking has been developed in collaboration with the Russian news agency Interfax to reflect priorities and challenges for universities in the BRICS countries.

It draws on two huge global surveys of academics and employers, combined with data on faculty/student ratio, research paper publications and citations, proportion of staff with a PhD, and percentages of international faculty and students.

The rankings provide a comparative tool to help prospective international students shortlist potential universities on a global scale and a rudimentary map of the international higher education landscape, which can, and has been used as a component in both institutional and government strategic decision making.
