Bihar awarded Krishi Karman Award for excellent Wheat production

Bihar has been awarded Krishi Karman Award for excellent production of Wheat during the year 2012-13. The Award would be presented to the State Chief Minister Nitish Kumar by President of India Mr. Pranab Mukherjee during World Congress for Agro Forestry 2014. The Congress would be held on February 10, 2014 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

As part of the Award the State would receive Rs 1 Crore, while two farmers from the State (one male and female) would receive Rs 1 Lakh each from the President of India along with a Citation. The Farmers would be selected on the basis of their Agricultural Production.

Last year Bihar was awarded Krishi Karman Purashkar for production of Rice. The Award is provided by Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India.

Krishi Karman Awards are given to best performing States in two broad sets. One for the total foodgrain production and the other for the individual foodgrain crops of rice, wheat, pulses and coarse cereals. States for total foodgrains category are further divided into three categories based on total foodgrain production capacity of the State.

Award winning States get a trophy, a citation and cash award. The cash award is Rs. 2 crores for total foodgrain production and Rs. 1 crore for each of the four individual crops.

The awards were instituted in 2010-11 for recognizing the meritorious efforts of States in foodgrain production.
