Nokia to be renamed Microsoft Mobile Oy by April end

Mobile Handset maker Nokia would soon be renamed as Microsoft Mobile Oy, as part of the deal which closes by April 2014 end.  Oy is a  Finnish abbreviation term for a “corporation”.

According to a letter sent by the corporation  to its suppliers, Nokia Corporation/Nokia Oyj (Ltd) name will be replaced by the new Redmond-owned subsidiary Microsoft Mobile Oy.

The letter, unearthed by  wmpoweruser.com,  tells its suppliers that existing relationships and terms will remain intact as the new Microsoft era begins.

It reads: “Please note that upon the close of the transaction between Microsoft and Nokia, the name of Nokia Corporation/Nokia Oyj will change to Microsoft Mobile Oy. Microsoft Mobile Oy is the legal entity name that should be used for VAT IDs and for the issuance of invoices.”

“Under the terms of the sale, Microsoft will assume all rights, benefits and obligations of the Nokia Devices and Services business, including Nokia’s agreements with suppliers, customers and partners which pertain to the Devices and Services business. Therefore, the purpose of this letter is to update you that the current terms and conditions that you have with the Devices and Services business will not change,” Nokia notes in the leaked letter.

However, this does not mean the end of Nokia Phone, as Nokia can venture into Smartphones business after 2015. Also, Microsoft would have the rights to use the name of Nokia for 10 years only.

On 2 September 2013, Microsoft announced that it would acquire Nokia’s mobile device business in a deal worth €3.79bn, along with another €1.65bn to license Nokia’s portfolio of patents for 10 years; a deal totaling at over €5.4bn.
