Policeman dismissed after posting Gangnam Style Video Spoof

London: Authorities have dismissed a Police Officer for tweeting a video of himself doing a Gangnam Style dance in uniform. Sergeant Gary Watts, 40, who served with Devon and Cornwall Police, was dismissed following a disciplinary hearing on Monday reports dailymail.co.uk

Watts, was dismissed allegedly after posting the spoof footage online to help raise money for Josh Wilson, a 12-year-old boy with a brain tumour. Sgt Gary Watts raised thousands of pounds for charity with the spoof video.

While, his imitation of Korean pop star Psy received a positive reaction on the Web yet he was suspended by the Police in May 2013. He then returned to the Falmouth branch of the force before being dismissed earlier this week.

On Monday, Devon and Cornwall Police said in a statement: ‘The allegations were found to be proven and Sgt Watts has been dismissed from the force with immediate effect for gross misconduct. No criminal charges have been brought against him.’

Following Mr Watts’ dismissal, Deputy Chief Constable Bill Skelly said: “We expect high standards from our officers and any officer who is thought to have breached these standards can be subject to disciplinary enquiries which can ultimately lead to dismissal.

“It is important that members of the public have confidence in the officers and staff who serve their communities and behaviour standards are extremely important in maintaining that confidence.”

The Video in which he was seen performing the spoof with 4 other police officers was initially posted on Twitter handle @surfchilled (account suspended). The video became a huge hit on YouTube with more than 100,000 views.
