Sohail Hingora Kidnapping: Property of Accused attached in Bihar

Patna: Property of the prime accused, who is on the run, in the abduction of a Gujarat-based businessman in Bihar last year was Tuesday attached by the state police, officials said.

The property of Chandan Sonar in Vaishali district was attached on a court’s order after he failed to surrender within the stipulated deadline, a district official said.

The court July 1 issued the warrants of attachment of property of Sonar on the plea of the investigation officer of the case.

According to police, Sonar was the kingpin of the gang involved in the abduction of Surat-based textiles businessman Sohel Hingora, 21, Oct 29 last year from near his industrial unit at Dharampur village in Daman. Hingora was brought to Bihar, where he was kept in Saran and Patna districts by his captors.

Hingora’s father Hanif Hingora then alleged that a leader of Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal-United, some police officers and a gang based in the state were involved in the crime, but the state government denied the role of any political leader in the case.

Hingora was released Nov 30 after a ransom of Rs.25 crore was reportedly paid.

Five people have been arrested in connection with the abduction. All of them are lodged in various jails and police have filed charge sheets against them.
