3 Female cops at Mahabodhi temple suspended for misbehaviour

Patna: Three policewomen, deployed for security of Bodh Gaya’s Mahabodhi temple, Buddhism’s holiest shrine in Bihar, were suspended for alleged misbehaviour with tourists, police Friday said.

Gaya Superintendent of Police Nishant Kumar Tiwari said action was taken against the three women personnel of the Bihar Military Police for misbehaving with tourists.

“They have been suspended after the complaint was found true,” he said.

This temple is a World Heritage Site where the Buddha, who was born at Lumbini in neighbouring Nepal, attained enlightenment around 2,500 years ago.

It is visited by millions of pilgrims annually from all over the world, especially from Sri Lanka, China, Japan and the Southeast Asian region.

The temple was rocked by a string of bombings in July this year. The National Investigation Agency is probing it.
