CPI-M and CPI-ML (Liberation) to join hands to fight against Neo Liberalism

Kolkata: A day after its central committee called for a broad Left platform to fight against neo-liberal policies, communalism and imperialism, the CPI-M Monday knocked on the doors of the CPI-ML (Liberation).

Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) politburo member Biman Bose visited the West Bengal state committee office of the CPI-Marxist Leninist (Liberation) with the proposal of drawing up joint programmes against Israel’s bombing of the Gaza Strip.

CPI-ML (Liberation) state secretary Partha Ghosh said Bose suggested that the programme could be held on anti-imperialism day (Sep 1) or some other mutually convenient date.

“He also proposed a joint movement against the increasing aggression of communal forces in the country after the Narendra Modi government’s ascent to power,” Ghosh told IANS.

The CPI-ML (Liberation) leadership told Bose that the matter would be discussed at the party’s central committee meeting at Maithon in Jharkhand Aug 16-17.

“We will place his proposal there. And then after the state committee parleys Aug 21-23, we will communicate our decision,” Ghosh said.

On Aug 10, the CPI-M central committee said in a resolution that the party “will work to widen and strengthen Left unity and work for the emergence of a broad Left platform to fight against neo-liberal policies, communalism and imperialism”.

In 20102, Bose had visited the office of the CPI-ML (Liberation) with the proposal of a joint movement against imperialism, but had received a cold response.
