Pyongyang: A North Korean court Sunday sentenced a tourist from the US to six years of hard labour after finding him guilty of “hostile acts”.
Matthew Miller, 24, was arrested in April for staging an incident while going through the immigration process, North Korean news agency KCNA reported.
The authorities have not specified the exact charges, but said he tore up his visa and demanded political asylum.
Another US tourist, Jeffrey Fowle, 56, was accused of leaving a Bible in his hotel room and was detained in May.
North Korea also arrested Korean-American missionary Kenneth Bae in November 2012 and later sentenced him to 15 years of forced labour for allegedly carrying out religious activities in the country.
North Korea has detained a total of eight US citizens for various reasons.
Hundreds of people from the US travel to North Korea despite a warning by the US government not to do so due to security reasons.
