Patna Metro Rail construction to cost Rs 14000 Crores

Patna: The much-awaited Patna Metro Railways would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 14000 Crores, according to the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared by Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) Ltd, a subsidiary of Indian Railways.

RITES was entrusted to carry out the consultation and DPR preparation for the mega-rail project, which would be the second metro rail in the eastern region after Kolkata.

According to the DPR, the first phase of Patna Metro would connect Danapur to Rajendranagar. The Metro train would begin its journey from Saguna More, and would traverse the entire Bailey to Patna Junction and then to Gandhi Maidan, PMCH, Rajendranagar and terminate at the proposed Inter State Bus-Terminal at Bhikhna Pahari. The total length of Phase 1 would be 31.5km

The Project will be based on Public-Private Partnership. The Centre would provide 20 per cent of the cost as Viability Gap Fund while the state government would spend a similar sum depending upon the final estimate of the project. The remaining amount would be borne by the private company involved in the construction of the Metro Rail. The entire Metro System would be elevated.
